Tips for Self-Improvement: Time Management
People are all too often overburdened by activities that take up too much time. We take on deadlines, arrange appointments, go shopping, and plenty of other things. From day to day, we are in a rush trying to accomplish all these things, and sometimes it seems as though we are putting our lives on hold and not spending enough quality time with family and friends. This article will offer some practical tips as to how to better manage time, and have more of it to do the things we enjoy.
The basis of self-improvement is the recognition that we do, in fact, need improvement. We might need to improve very minor things, like our habit of slamming the snooze button every morning on our alarm. Or improvement might mean something more complex, like going for therapy sessions and gaining a new perspective. Whatever the needed changes are, it is important that we recognize the need to make them. Self-improvement is not a one time thing; it should occur over a lifetime and never stop. And theres no better time to start than today.
There are a variety of ways to manage time more effectively. You can find books in your local bookstore that deal with the subject, as well as some videos. All of them can offer a bit of advice.
Everybodys time is important. We cant waste our time doing useless things that dont get us anywhere and dont provide happiness and fulfillment. Yet, many people waste their lives and dont know why. By not staying focused on the important aspects of our lives, we fall by the wayside and end up unhappy. This distress can manifest itself both mentally and physically.
One advantage we have is that we can get a handle on time. Why let it control us? The first step to taking back control is to get rid of needless things that siphon away our precious time.
External factors can affect our time management. A phone call, a meeting that is called at the last minute, an emergency, and many other external things can force us to set aside time, whether we like it or not. On the other hand, there are plenty of internal factors that we can control, like the amount of rest or exercise we get, the way we organize our lives, and so on.
You have no doubt had the experience of managing both external factors that consume your time as well as the internal ones. Its often impossible to control the external factors, so the focus of your efforts should be to improve management of the internal factors over which you have control. Here are a few suggestions that will help you manage your time efficiently.
*Start writing things down. Youll waste a lot less time by keeping track this way. Ideally, you should schedule your entire day.
*Give priority to important things. Put your priorities in a prominent place on your agenda.
*Focus on yourself, rather than on others. Of course, you can lend a hand to others when they need it, but remember to keep time for yourself, and dont get too involved in the problems of others. You have enough on your plate as it is.
